DASTAAN LIVE

Dastaan LIVE is an art-rock project that brings together the world of the aural and the visual to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience for audiences. We constantly strive to discover new ways to make this project increasingly immersive for our audiences with our presentation driven by powerful verses of Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Sahir Ludhianvi, Majaaz, Nazir Akbarabadi, and Baba Nagarjuna, to name a few. Using their words and our music, lights and visuals to tell stories of India from an urban, middle-class perspective and creating spaces for dialogue and interpretations and compelling people above all, to think.

As an actor, one of the first things that was told to me was that once you really get a sense of what a script or your character wants to say, then only you can really begin playing. Dastaan has been one such autonomous journey filled with intensive experimentation in design. Being an independent band, our aim has always been to find alternate lighting solutions to get the ideas across. From building a cityscape out of cheap cardboard boxes stacked one over the other with bulbs fixed inside them to creating a projection wall of clothes hanging on a clothes line, Dastaan LIVE has been one such educational journey which challenged me and my team in every step of the way. We have gone from performing inside of a 20ftX30ft living room to gigantic festival stages, making sure that no two shows ever looked the same. The biggest strength of the show is that it is adaptable and the performance totally depends on the place we are at. Dastaan LIVE currently functions with three formats; Proscenium(Auditoriums, Concert halls, Arena stages), Roundel(Black Boxes) and Acoustic(Basements, Living rooms).
